Composite Bonding

What is it?

Composite bonding is an application a tooth coloured filling material known as ‘composite’ to modify the size, shape or colour the natural tooth. Unlike porcelain crowns or veneers which are made in the laboratory, bonding can be done in a single visit in the dentist chair.

There are two types of composite bonding: Edge bonding and Veneer bonding:

  • Edge bonding: Composite is added on the biting edges of the teeth and in the gaps. It is artistically blended into the existing teeth allowing your smile to be enhanced but still offering a natural look.
  • Veneer bonding: Composite completely camouflage the underlying tooth and can allow us to change the length, shape, proportions and the colour of the teeth.

When to use it?

The procedure is commonly used for aesthetic purposes to improve the appearance of a discoloured, misshaped, chipped tooth or close spaces between teeth.

How much does it cost?

Fees for composite bonding varies for each case depending on the complexity and time needed. Just to give you an idea, a simple edge bonding start from £200 per tooth and a complex veneer composite can go up to £400.
